Indie Songs and Albums.

When an indie artist or indie band has completed one song and id ready to move to the next, the important decision to make is weather to release a single song or wait to complete an album. Usually they follow the trend and start working on completing an album before release. To release an album, there is a lot of ground work to be done, like finding a publisher, marketing of your up-coming release, etc. All of this has to be done while you are also working on your new songs. This procedure sometimes takes a lot of time and delays release of songs that are ready to be in the market. Mostly what happens is, some really good numbers are lost in this time.

To get licence from the publishers is not very difficult because they are always looking out for opportunities to publish new albums to earn a living. However, as I have mentioned in my blog Publishing Indie Music, it is important to understand that publishers are looking out for opportunities to license your songs and leverage flow of money. Therefore, in the initial stages of your career, you will not benefit as much from the publishing deal, as the terms will not be too favourable. So unless you come with a solid earning background, you do not enjoy much bargaining power in the deal. Considering this, the other option is to wait a little in your career before you sign a publisher, until you have earned a name and fan base, in order to get a good deal from the publishers.

A lot of money is required to do something big. Do not get discouraged by the fact that a lot of time has gone into finishing an album and more time means more problems. Expect the unexpected hurdles to come up, like non-availability of studios for recording, a drummer quitting the job or you running out of cash. I have learnt that it is good to be on the move and not stagnate, waiting to complete an album. If you are sure your song is good, release it. Eventually success is what everyone looks for. Don’t attempt to follow in the footsteps of your favorite stars by continuing to record an album. Every artist works in a different way, but the aim is to attain success and earn money. But remember that it is not necessary to do something big to earn good money, you can earn soon by making it small as well. Having your own website can be very helpful in advertising your work. If you have no idea about creating and maintaining a website, there are companies like Hyper Effects that can help you connect with your target audience efficiently. Hyper Effects is one stop for your website, marketing and cyber development requirements. It helps you to create a website to display your talent or sell your indie music or indie art. Their websites are easy to navigate.

Some excellent indie artists do each song perfectly but, at times, do not release it until they have completed an album. They don’t even like to talk about it until they are ready for release. Sometimes this leads to a very famous star or band being unable to release the album because they get bigger projects which are more attractive for them. This makes them leave small projects and start working on bigger ones. At times these bigger projects do not go very well and the artist lands up in financial debts because of two unreleased projects. They may also have to face professional problems because of a broken band and decision of jumping to a bigger project. As I have mentioned in my blog Raising money for Your Indie Music, it is extremely important to create music that is marketable to the general public, because if you don’t have something that interests the listeners on a basic level, it doesn’t matter how good your development process goes. No one will invest.

This may sound basic, but we’ve all fallen in love with an idea that isn’t marketable and realized only too late that we should have tested it at a much earlier stage. Not everything that appeals to an artist appeals to general So learn, and make sure you have something really amazing and original.

You’re always going to read and hear about the “right” way to do things in indie music. Know that there isn’t one correct way to do anything. Just see what you really want to do. Make a plan and stick to it, then just get to work. Don’t stop!
